How to Stay Accountable in Your Job Search

Over the past five months, I’ve taken a look at TYGES’ core values – respect, integrity, courage, and determination. Today we’ve made it to the final one: accountability.

TYGES defines accountability like this: We are responsible for our actions in a performance-driven environment.

TYGES uses several strategies to stay accountable.

Notice the definition above mentions we work in a “performance-driven environment.” TYGES has specific numerical goals that each member of our team strives for. And what’s fun about numbers? They are simple and clear-cut. Having a numerical measure for your performance is an impartial way to gauge yourself and hold yourself accountable to your goals.

I also rely on my teammates. Working alongside coworkers with a strong work ethic pushes me to make sure I am also bringing my best and helps me stay on track with my goals.

TYGES recently gave its employees a planner called Self Journal by Best Self, and it is designed to help people reach their goals by taking careful steps. In its guide, the planner shares an acronym to use as you thoughtfully craft your goals. The acronym is SMART, and it stands for…

Specific

Measurable

Achievable

Realistic

Timely

As you are evaluating how you keep yourself accountable in your own work, consider making specific and measurable goals for yourself. Recording your actions every day can give you a more honest visual of your performance.

I also recommend finding people you trust to check your plan and help make sure it is in fact SMART, and to walk with you on your journey. Like the coworkers I have at TYGES, your people can push you to be better and stay on track.

One of the benefits of working with TYGES is that we can be there to help guide you as you navigate your career path. I can guarantee that as you work with any member here at TYGES, you will have people there to help you stay accountable and to treat you with respect, and work alongside you with integrity, determination, and courage. Our mission is to “make good things happen for other people,” so we are here to support you as you strive for healthy goals.
